Thank You from the Haddick Family

Dear family and friends,

Let me declare from the outset that I (Emily) am attempting the impossible in trying to describe the depth and breadth of the oceans of gratitude and love we have for each and everyone of you! This journey, thus far, has been a strange one of agony and amazement. The lion’s share of agony was and is Dave’s physical trauma. However, the helplessness of watching Dave suffer and the strain of waiting - during surgeries and in this period of healing - is emotionally agonizing.

In counterpoint to the distress, we have also experienced amazement at God’s grace, creativity and provision! We can testify to God’s grace and protection in knowing Dave could have sustained far more severe injuries or post-surgical complications. We are dazzled by God’s creativity as we have discovered just how intricate and interdependent are the systems in the human body. And we have been completely astounded and awestruck by God’s provision through family, friends and many we have never met! Dave and I are convinced that you were prompted by God to so selflessly and generously sacrifice your time, talents and “treasure” to provide for our needs at this time. We know you all have sacrificed valuable assets on our behalf, and we are overwhelmed and humbled by the enormity of your benevolence! Thank you for providing “answers” to our prayers! We can never thank you enough, and we will never stop thanking you! Last but not least, is the amazing - surprising and inexplicable - peace and joy I have felt during the last few months.

When I applied Paul’s recommended actions and attitudes, as described in Philippians 4:4-6, God fulfilled His promise given in Philippians 4:7:

“Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS. I will say it again: rejoice! … The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Your prayers and great kindnesses have contributed greatly to those gifts of peace and joy in this time of trouble! Daily, we will pray that “…a good measure of…” God’s blessing “…pressed down, shaken together, and running over be poured into your laps!” (Luke 6:38) May you trust in God’s faithfulness and personally experience His amazing peace and joy, too!

With our deepest appreciation and highest regard,

Emily and Dave

PS. Please continue to pray for healing in the nerves in Dave’s legs and feet! THANK YOU!

Spotlight on the House Projects Team

What happens when you suddenly need to reconfigure a home so that it can accomodate wheelchair accessibility?  If you are Team Dave, you call in the House Projects Crew!

Under the leadership of David Kinley, the Crew rallied in the first week of October.  This dedicated sub-team descended upon Casa Haddick like the folks from Extreme Home Makeover.  In just a few short days, they completed these projects:

  • Paved pathway from the driveway to the house
  • Installed a ramp to get into the house
  • Replaced the front door and bathroom door
  • Replaced the vanity and sink with a wall-mounted counter and sink in the bathroom
  • Installed a handheld shower attachment
  • Moved furniture from 4 different rooms to create a bedroom space in the main floor play room
  • Installed a curtain to section off the living room and new bedroom area
  • Put furniture items into storage

Well, as you can imagine, the house was ready for a joyous welcome when Dave finally came home
on Oct. 8.  Thanks to the many professionals and handymen that made it all possible in such a short time.

Craig Terrill

Craig Terrill graduated from Purdue Univeristy with a degree in journalistic communication in 2003. That spring, he chose to put his journalistic aspirations on hold and entered the NFL draft. Craig spent seven years as an NFL player with the Seattle Seahawks. He now serves as part of the broadcast team for the Seahawks on their flagship radio station, KIRO 710 AM.  Along the way he has also developed his passion for music. He and his band have performed locally and he has also played on stage with Garth Brooks and played with The Herding Cats at the House of Blues in both Chicago and Orlando. He and his wife, Rachel, wrote a song dedicated to Gloria Strauss that is on his first released CD, called CT.

Craig believes that being blessed is a calling to bless others. In college, he was involved with a reading program called Gentle Giants. Since then, he has helped raise money for Gilda's Club Seattle, Childhaven, Garth Brooks' Teammates for Kids, Circle of Friends, and the Grant Wistrom Foundation.

Rachel Terrill

As the wife of an NFL player, Rachel has been blessed with many opportunities to get involved with charitable organizations and foundations. But several years ago, when she and her husband volunteered to bring a handful of pediatric cancer patients on a winter ski trip with an organization called Circle of Friends, her life was forever changed. Gloria Strauss was one of those children on that trip who showed her that she was not just "a cancer patient" -- she was a sassy young girl who we would later watch transform the lives of thousands of people with her life and her legacy of turning the attention and spreading love from herself and onto others who were suffering. She feels blessed to now be on the board of directors for Gloria's Angels, a foundation that has used Gloria's impact to activate others to live Gloria's legacy of helping those who are most in need.

Rachel is the co-founder of a group called Funky Young Women that brings together NFL wives and teenagers who have cancer to help the girls forget about their illnesses and celebrate themselves as funky young women. She has also been involved with the Grant Wistrom Foundation, Garth Brooks' Teammates for Kids, has procured auction items for Childhaven and Gilda's Club. Rachel earned her PhD in interpersonal communication from the University of South Florida in 2010. Her work specializes in interpersonal relationships, religion, and identity formation. She also has an MA degree in Interpersonal Communication and Reflexivity from the University of South Florida and a BA in communication from Purdue University.

Casey Jacox

Casey joins Gloria’s Angel’s as a board member after being an active supporter of the foundation since 2009. He currently serves as the Gloria’s Angel’s Golf Tournament Director and partners closely with others in making it one of the significant funding sources for the foundation. In only two years, he has transformed the tournament from a small gathering of friends into a sold out event at a premier venue with a multitude of corporate sponsors. Casey currently works within the technology consulting and services industry for Kforce where he manages some of their most strategic accounts and also leads the strategic direction of the sales organization. Casey considers himself very blessed to be put in spot to utilize his competitive spirit & relationship building skills for Gloria’s Angels. When asked to compare the feeling of throwing a touchdown for Central Washington University while in college, being the #1 sales producer at Kforce for the last 5 years or raising money for an amazing foundation that will allow funds to greatly impact the lives of those in need – he states, “that is the easiest question I’ve ever had to answer.” He credits his football coaches, mentors and wife for instilling humility and the drive to help others to make our world a better place.

Casey is an aspiring author, guest speaker and enjoys golf, crossfit and coaching youth sports. He looks forward to making his role in Gloria’s Angels the next great chapter in his life. He is married to his best friend, Carrie Jacox and they have two beautiful children, Ryder (6) and Rylee (4).
